In 1974, Captain Gilbert C. Clark purchased the line. A six-car ferryboat, "Southside", was brought from Shelter Island, NY to replace the "Tred Avon". In 1975, Captains David and Valerie Bittner joined her father in the business. The current steel-hulled ferry, the "Talbot" was built and put into service in July 1980. The "Talbot" and the "Southside" ran concurrently until 1987 when the "Southside" was decommissioned; it currently lies at the bottom of the Chesapeake Bay as a man-made reef.
